Questions

Does it work offline?

Yes. Speech recognition and formatting run on your Mac. Pepys goes online to download its models once, to activate a licence key, and to check for updates.

What does it send to you?

Nothing you say. The privacy page lists every network request the app makes.

Will it become a subscription?

No. Pro is a one-time payment, and the free plan's 2,000 words a week will never be cut. Everything runs on your Mac either way.

What happens when I reach 2,000 words?

The dictation you're in always finishes. After that you still get one free dictation a day, sharing your stats card adds 500 words for the week, and your words reset every Monday. Or unlock unlimited for $9.99 once, plus tax where applicable.

How many Macs can I use?

Up to three per licence. Deactivate one in Settings to move it to another Mac.

What do I need?

A Mac with Apple silicon on macOS 13 or later, and about 1.5 GB of free space for the speech and formatting models (2.5 GB with the higher-accuracy model).

How is it different from the dictation built into macOS?

It applies your corrections, formats lists and numbers, works the same in every app, and keeps a history you can search, all without sending audio anywhere.
