Ukrainian belongs to roughly 40 million speakers, and it never sounds the same twice. The literary standard rests on the central Poltava–Kyiv dialects, but a recording from Lviv carries a softer western (Galician) lilt, a market conversation drifts into Surzhyk – the running blend of Ukrainian and Russian you hear across daily life – and a voice note from Transcarpathia bends the vowels in its own way. Pepys writes all of it out in proper Cyrillic, keeping the letters that mark the language as itself: ї, є, і, ґ and the apostrophe that splits a hard consonant from the vowel after it.
The thing that throws generic speech models is the grammar underneath the sound. Ukrainian declines nouns through seven cases, including a living vocative – "Андрію!", not "Андрій" – so the same word reshapes its ending depending on the sentence, and the alphabet looks deceptively like Russian until you reach и versus і or the rare ґ. Pepys is tuned for those exact edges. Ukrainian is auto-detected among 99+ languages, your first 60 minutes are free, credits never expire, and we never train on your audio.
Clean paragraphs. No more um's and ah's.
The left is what Pepys hands back – logical paragraphs with the filler stripped out, punctuated and readable. The right is the raw, one-line-per-segment dump most transcribers leave you with.
um so yeah everyone keeps telling you to like lead with your best line right but uh honestly if you give away the whole answer in the first second you know there's basically no reason for anyone to keep watching so the hook isn't kind of the smartest thing you say it's like a loop you open that they need to close and um that's the part that actually keeps people around

Ukrainian audio to text – questions, answered
How do I convert Ukrainian audio to text?
Upload your Ukrainian recording or paste a link on this page – the first 60 minutes are free, no card. Pepys returns clean, timestamped Cyrillic text in minutes, ready to search, quote, or translate.
Will it handle the western accent or Surzhyk?
Yes. Pepys is built around literary українська but follows the Galician western accent and the Ukrainian–Russian Surzhyk mix people actually speak. Anything that slips through, you can correct inline before exporting.
What makes Ukrainian hard to transcribe?
Two things: a seven-case grammar with a live vocative that keeps reshaping word endings, and a Cyrillic alphabet that mirrors Russian until the Ukrainian-only letters ї, є, і and ґ. Pepys is tuned for both, and lets you fix any term by hand.
Does it write the special Ukrainian letters correctly?
It does. ї, є, і, ґ and the apostrophe all render properly, so the transcript reads as real Ukrainian rather than a Russified approximation.
Is my Ukrainian audio private?
Yes. We never train AI on your audio or transcripts, and you can auto-delete your files once processing finishes.
